Middle school band · Asheville, NC
$15,000 from a 150-kid band program. The best result for its size this fall.
One band program, 150 kids, one director, one sale. No principal and no PTA required. This is the page for every band, chorus, cheer and dance program on this site.
Band kids
One middle school band program in Asheville, North Carolina.
Days
Opened October 2, closed October 25.
In sales
More than some whole schools with three times the kids.
The school
A middle school band program in Asheville, North Carolina, up in the mountains in the western end of the state. The band only, about 150 kids on the roster, one director, and the parents who come with a band program.
Brian does not name the school or the director. The town, the roster, the dates and the number are real. If you direct a band and want to talk to someone who has done this, book a call and ask.
The goal
Band money goes where band money always goes. Trips, instruments and repairs, uniforms, music, competition fees. Which of those this program was funding stays with the director.
The goal was set the way Brian sets every one. One number for the roster, agreed before the kickoff, said out loud to the kids. A band program has an advantage here that a whole school does not. Every kid in the room already knows what the money is for, because they are the ones going on the trip.
The sale
The sale opened October 2 and closed October 25. Twenty-four days, longer than the standard two weeks, because October is the busiest month a band program has and the window had to fit around it.
The program ran the fall gift catalog. Sweet treats, cookie dough, popcorn, wrapping paper, candles, kitchen goods, tote bags, magazines. The VIP Duck prize program ran the whole sale, with every student’s progress in the admin site so the director could see the numbers without collecting a single order form.
The online store was open from day one, with a share link for each student. Band families sent it to grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends in other towns and other states, and every one of those orders shipped direct to the buyer. In-person orders came back to the school pre-sorted by student, so the director handed out boxes at the end of rehearsal and was done. The program is on how it works.
The number
$15,000 at close from a roster of 150. On the results page, that is the same total as a 300-student charter academy in Greensboro and more than a 460-student elementary school in Virginia Beach. For its size, it was the best result of Brian’s 40 fall 2026 fundraisers.
What made it work
- The roster is the sale. A band program does not need the principal, the PTA or the rest of the building. The director says yes, Brian builds the store for the program, and 150 families go to work. Zero upfront cost and no minimum means saying yes costs the program nothing.
- Every kid already knew why. A band kid selling for the band trip is selling for themselves. That is the kind of motivation a whole-school sale has to manufacture and a program sale gets for free.
- The ducks kept it going for 24 days. A cumulative prize program gives a kid a reason to ask one more person in week three. Tracked in the admin site, the director could see who was close to the next prize and say so at rehearsal.
- The online store reached the whole family tree. Band families have relatives everywhere. Share links that ship direct to any state turned all of them into supporters without one box passing through the band room.
If your program looks like this
A band, orchestra, chorus, cheer squad, dance team, drama club or booster group with a roster of 50 to 500 and something specific to pay for. This is your sale. It runs the same whether you are in Asheville or Austin, and it starts with a call. The full picture for programs is on the bands and cheer page.
Questions people ask
Can a single band program run this without the rest of the school?
Yes. The roster is the sale. The director or the boosters say yes, Brian builds the store for the program, and the rest of the school never has to be involved.
Does this work for high school band, chorus or cheer?
Same program, bigger rosters. High school bands, choruses, cheer squads, dance teams, drama clubs and booster groups run the same two-week sale with the same catalog, prize program and online store.
Why a longer window here?
This sale ran 24 days, October 2 to 25. Band programs are busy in October, with football Fridays and competitions, and a longer window gives a roster this size room to share the link more than once. Two weeks is the standard. The calendar decides.
